The European Energylabel
Televisions, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers and washing machines represent on average 30% of the electricity bill paid each month by households.
The Directive 2010/30/EU obliges the manufacturers to declare the level of consumption of their products. This allows consumers to make informed choices by being alerted on the running costs of a product before they make their purchasing decision. This information is contained in a label applied to the product which describes the energy class. The proposal arose for products that consume energy, but has been extended to products that do not consume but have a significant indirect impact on energy savings like windows. For example, a refrigerator-freezer in class A+++ will consume on average 60% less than a refrigerator-freezer in class A and a 70% less than a class B. A dishwasher or a washing machine in class A+++ will consume on average 30% less than a dishwasher or a washing machine in class A and a 40% less than a class B.
